Stevia potential and applications, good news for DHA, and ripe opportunities for whey protein-based sports drinks… our team at HIE shares some discoveries from the first day of the trade show in Madrid.

Ben Bouckley came across new soy nuggets from Solae, and spoke to folks at Volac about their new category of whey protein based beverage drinks for sports performance - they think the time is nigh for whey based recovery drinks.

Nathan Grey discussed consumer demand and perceptions of fibre with Sandra Einerhand from Tate and Lyle, and advances in the omega-3 sector from Martek in the light of EFSA's recent positive opinions on DHA.

Jess Halliday caught up with Israel's Gary Brenner on new innovation from Israel, and some of the big stevia players about new applications and potential in Europe.
