McDonald's restaurant linked to salmonella outbreak

Last updated on 27-Nov-2012 at 17:26 GMT

McDonald's is at the centre of an investigation of an outbreak of salmonella at one of its restaurants in Illinois.

The McLean County Health Department and the Illinois Department of Public Health are investigating cases who reported eating at restaurants in Central Illinois from 18 October to 11 November.

The McDonald's on South Main Street in Bloomington voluntary closed due to a suspected connection to the salmonella cases, which are believed to be human transmission rather than a certain food.

“The health department discussed the situation with the franchise ownership, at which time they chose to voluntarily close in an abundance of caution,” a statement said.

The employees are being tested and will be allowed to return to work as lab results confirm they are safe to serve food to the public.
